WTS Leeds - Have fun, smash the bike and enjoy the atmosphere

A hometown race, hurrah! When it was announced that Leeds would replace London's Hyde Park as the venue for the 5th race on the World Triathlon Series Tour, I, like many sports fans started getting exciting. A chance to watch the world's best triathletes, battle it out on our home turf. When they announced a mass age group race would proceed the Elite race and everyone and anyone I knew seemed to have signed up to compete I thought I may as well have a bash. I was dead keen to smash around the closed roads of Leeds that I commute on daily. It's not often you get to do a triathlon that starts 10 minutes from your front door.

Karl Alexander - Aiming For The Outlaw Triathlon Double

0At the start of the 2016 season, I had two very clear objectives with an eye on a third if the first one came off. Winning the Outlaw Half in 2015 gave me an opportunity to do something amazing by attempting to win both the Outlaw half and the full distance races in the same season, something that as yet, has not been done by anyone. My attempt last year didn’t go quite according to plan, a last minute decision to race The Bastion another Iron Distance event just 2 weeks before hand put paid to that and I failed to really perform at either. Fast forwards to 2016 and my first major race of the season, The Outlaw Half. As defending champion I came into the race as one of the favourites but it wasn’t without significant competition,

7 reasons for taking part in a weekly coached track running session

Whatever phase of training you are in there are compelling reasons to add a track session to your training plan. We coaches see remarkable improvements in running ability and faster race times as a result of just one track session each week. Some age group triathletes think running on an athletics track is only for speedy young people but we know it will help all triathletes whatever your age or ability. Even those aiming at an Ironman distance race can benefit because a track session will make you a more efficient runner.

Slaying The Slateman

Slateman Triathlon, 22nd May 2016 This was my third visit in three years to Llanberis, Snowdonia, to compete in the Iconic Slateman Triathlon, could i make it 3 wins in a row? The swim takes place in Lake Padarn in Llanberis. I was here a month ago with Raceforce/Always Aim High helping at a pre slateman training weekend. You can read more about this here The water was beyond freezing, it was Arctic. I wasn't massively keen to be jumping back into it this weekend. Wow, what a difference 3 weeks of sunshine can do, not exactly tropical but no ice to crack.

Benefits of planning your triathlon racing season

People fall into three camps when we ask: ‘what are your physical activity goals this year?’ Camp 1: You are able to show your season’s races planned out till the off season in November Camp 2: You have one or two races entered probably a big ‘A’ race like the Outlaw Camp 3: You have some thought to entering some races Obviously I’ve structured this list to favour the best option. Unfortunately, there won’t be many people in this camp from my experience. You will have more fun if you plan your season.
